Western Australia Is Set to Score Two New Public Holidays

There’s nothing better than a day off.
WA Premier Roger Cook is introducing legislation, to be tabled in parliament next week, that will shake up the state’s public holidays.
Existing public holidays – Labour Day and the King’s Birthday – will be moved to align WA with the rest of the country.
WA Day will move from June to the second Monday in November, which will hopefully allow for better weather.
A brand new public holiday called Show Day will fall on the first Monday of the September/October school holiday period. It’ll celebrate the Perth Royal Show. Easter Saturday will also become an official public holiday, patching up the gap in the Easter long weekend.
“These changes are about modernising WA’s public holiday calendar in a way that reflects the needs and values of our community. By adding two new public holidays – Easter Saturday and Show Day – we’re creating a schedule that better matches the rhythm of life in WA. And by realigning three existing ones, we are supporting productivity and economic activity across the state,” said Cook in a statement.
The holidays will take effect in 2028, giving local businesses a few years to adapt.
These are all the changes:
• Labour Day will move to the second Monday in March, or the third Monday if it clashes with a state election.
• Easter Saturday will become an official public holiday.
• The King’s Birthday holiday will be on the second Monday in June.
• A new public holiday – Show Day – will be on the first Monday of the September/October school holidays.
• WA Day will move to the second Monday in November.
