Willing Coffee and Bar Vino
In 2019, husband-and-wife Tim and Veronique Willing transformed an old 1935 corner deli in Mount Lawley into their second cafe, following Guildford favourite Willing Coffee.
As at the Guildford mothership, the team here prides itself on a high level of customer service. It also shares Guildford’s in-house coffee blend, and there are guest local, interstate and overseas roasters on batch and espresso. You might find bags of Perth’s own Twin Peaks next to Sydney’s Sample Coffee or New York City’s Sey Coffee.
The food menu is simple, and might include granola, banana bread and house-baked cakes and croissants.
Tim grew up in Mount Lawley, and this outpost lives on the site of a former deli he would frequent as a child. So don’t expect a cookie-cutter version of its Guildford sibling. This cafe has a more in-and-out vibe compared to the original’s slower pace. Reclaimed timber and a Peters Ice Cream mural – restored by local artist Luke O’Donohoe – help keep the Australiana heritage alive. It looks like it’s always been there.
A few nights of the week, the space transforms into Bar Vino, a Euro-style wine bar that opened in 2023. Even at 4pm on a weekday, it’s buzzing with eager diners ready to settle in for the night ahead.
The Mediterranean-style menu highlights local produce from La Delizia Latticini, Torre Butchers, Kailis, Dirty Clean Food, Bread In Common and Willing Coffee itself. It might feature dishes of fresh ricotta gnocchi with fresh tomato sugo and basil; spaghetti with Shark Bay Venus clams; and 24-month aged Parmigiano Reggiano with Manjimup truffle honey.
The wine list features more than 150 wines, with the Tuscan wines of chianti classico, montalcino and super Tuscans at the heart of things. If picking a wine from the extensive list is overwhelming, there’s a map of Italy on hand to help select the perfect drop from the region; or the passionate bar staff can share suggestions.
