Sugar & Nice was inspired by Magnolia Bakery in New York. Though owner Marnee Rinaldi has been obsessed with baked goods since she was 10, she found her way back to the craft after a Sex and the City tour in the Big Apple led her to Carrie Bradshaw’s favourite bakery.
Rinaldi is always experimenting to create new types of blondies, brownies, cupcakes macarons and other baked goods with which to line her shop’s counter. She’s also pretty good at gluten-free and makes wedding cakes on the side under the name, Made by Marnee.
About the only thing she doesn’t bake herself are the croissants (they’re flown in from France) and the bagels (from local group The Holy Bagel Co).
From 7am on weekdays a coffee window slides open to service walkers with dogs and prams. Those who make it inside can browse the small shop at the back, which sells accessories and homewares.
