The Panini Bar Gourmet Market
This Italian-influenced grocer and delicatessen is a one-stop shop for excellent panini, coffee, ready-made meals and pantry staples. While the humble mini market opened in 2019, the family has been in the area for generations: co-owner Linda Turnbull’s parents have run Crimea Quality Meats next door since 1977.
Most of the action happens at the in-house deli, where you’ll see queues forming around lunch hour each day. Loyalists return for its loaded paninis, including the signature continental roll, The Works, which comes stacked with Swiss cheese, cold-cuts, antipasto, salad and a secret house-recipe spread. It all comes wrapped in a chewy and crusty baguette (or there’s a gluten-free equivalent). The kitchen also turns out hearty ready-made meals, which rotate weekly. You might find lasagne, pork-and-fennel-sausage risotto, spaghetti bolognaise, or crumbed chicken and veal cotoletta.
There’s also the option to stack your basket with high-quality cold-cuts – local smoked leg ham from Crimea Quality Meats, say, or Prosciutto di San Daniele imported from Italy – along with a range of smallgoods from Perth producers like Mondo Doro. The Panini Bar takes its cheese just as seriously, stocking WA-made burrata, bocconcini and stracciatella alongside European cheeses such as spicy Dutch Ruscello and Italian truffle pecorino.
In the grocer, you’ll find shelves brimming with European pantry items, including dried pasta, antipasto, Italian pasta sauces, biscotti, coffee and more. Drinks-wise, there’s hot coffee to go and a fridge stacked with cans of San Pellegrino, soft drinks and plenty more.
