In August 2015 a car ploughed through the shopfront of the pharmacy next to Hudson & Hughie. Patrons took a quick glance, then got back to their food. Yep, Karen Hughie-Williams and Ollie Hudson have the cafe thing down pat.

The pair has gone from Tarts in Northbridge to Deli Chicchi in Mount Claremont. They currently operate Floreat’s Fortysevenkirwanstreet and Hudson & Hughie, but the four venues share long waits for a table on the weekend in common. They’re worth it.

The fact that Hudson & Hughie’s food commands more attention than a literal car crash (there were no casualties) says a lot about chef Hudson’s produce-driven approach. The potato-and-zucchini fritter – which accompanies a dish of smoked salmon, rocket and hollandaise – packs textural variety a hash brown can only dream of.

House-made pastries such as brioche tarts, cupcakes and muffins make for an ideal pre-work treat. Take-home options include pastas, salads, stews and curries.

Hudson & Hughie also sells outstanding jams, teas, snacks, cheeses and dairy products from suppliers such Barambah Organics, Top Dup Donuts and Pukka. It will even cater your function.
