City Farm Cafe
City Farm Cafe may have a car park and a nearby railway, but once inside you’re in paddock-to-plate territory. Located within City Farm, a community farm run by not-for-profit organisation Men of the Trees, the open-air cafe serves homey breakfasts and lunches plus sweet baked goods.
Meals are simple and aim to please. Breakfast favourites include aged cheddar scramble with chives; buckwheat and macadamia muesli; and soft-boiled eggs with dukkah and toast soldiers.
All the herbs and greens on the menu are picked daily on the grounds of City Farm itself. Much of the cafe’s other produce is from City Farm’s farmers’ market, which is held each Saturday.
Fine market days see City Farm Cafe bustling with customers keen for a feed and an organic coffee courtesy of Northbridge Coffee Roasters.
You’ll have to queue up to place your order and on busy days the food won’t arrive in a hurry. But that’s no bad thing; there's a sandpit to keep the kids busy and it gives you the chance to relax and enjoy the market atmosphere, hear the odd rooster crowing (for real) and imagine yourself far away from the city.
