A once-derelict site is the home of Chinta, a Balinese-inspired cafe that called Doubleview home for almost five years. Not only has the move to North Perth brought the restaurant closer to the city, it’s also helped extend the life of the 1923-built servo it is housed in.

The building’s aesthetic has been retained but a Chinta tranquillity dominates. It’s a beautiful, industrial, tropical space – with an emphasis on the “space”. Where the original had just 20 seats, the new Chinta can accommodate 90 guests among its indoor water features and palm trees.

The boho upstairs “library” is a little hideaway for small groups. There is also a mezzanine level that can be booked for functions.

The move into a bigger kitchen means an expanded all-day menu. The selection is mostly savoury: nasi goreng; baked chorizo with slow-cooked eggs; corned-beef hash; and all the usual egg options. Sweets, such as pancakes with glazed banana and berry coulis, are also offered. Bruschetta on beetroot sourdough is a tick for vegans and vegetarians. The coffee is an in-house Chinta blend.

Homewares, furniture and gifts are another aspect of the Chinta experience. Look for local products as well as pieces designed and made in Indonesia.
