SOOL (Story Of Our Life)
A speakeasy-style club characterised by the dulcet tones of Chet Baker and Miles Davis. That’s SOOL in a nutshell, but the only illegal activity is taking yourself too seriously. By day it’s a cafe, by night a swanky club.
Husband-and-wife team Ashvin and Dominique Luchmaya opened SOOL in 2014, intent on showcasing local musicians. Their love of jazz and blues is evident with the talented line-up of pianists, crooners and acoustic duo Ben and Tahlia Marvin of Chill Devine.
The compact menu from chef Jean Christophe Tournut is influenced by French classics such as coq au vin and crème brûlée. Other highlights include mountainous high teas on weekends and classic cocktails.
Away from most of the city action, it’s a favourite haunt for couples beneath the light of the shimmering chandelier and against the gentle tinkle of the baby grand.
