Father and son Michiel and Konrad de Ruyter always wanted to open something. But most importantly – a place where you could see live music. After a seven year hunt for the right property, a lease opened up at a perfect spot on Lyric Lane (a small side-street off Guildford Road). Best of all? They didn’t even need to think of a name.
The result is a casual bar and eatery, Lyric's Bar, and the 170-capacity concert space downstairs dubbed Lyric's Underground; suitable for both standing and seated gigs from rock to acoustic.
Lyric Lane has eight independently owned beer taps featuring local breweries including (Metricup brewery) Beerfarm, Colonial and Nail. Konrad previously oversaw the wine list at The Raffles Hotel, so customers can expect a well-curated selection with lots of Australian bottles including some funky options to keep things interesting.
Comprising snacks, main meals and a couple of desserts, the bar menu covers everything from chilli fried chicken with pickle juice comeback sauce, to an Asian-inspired pork belly burger and Mediterranean lamb skewers. While the venue no longer identifies as a cafe, you can still get coffee by local roastery, Kaltiva.
