Little Things Gin
Even if you’re looking out for it, Little Things’ distillery and bar on Railway Road is easy to miss. But what gives this place away, especially on weekends, is the fleet of bicycles parked out front – a telltale sign of the local contingent revelling beyond its low-key industrial facade.
In addition to being a retail outlet for the distillery’s gin, this warehouse also moonlights as a 100-person small bar four nights a week, where notable cocktails, house gin and tonics, beer and wine are all in good supply.
The food menu keeps things comforting and familiar (meatballs, slow-cooked lentils, muhammara and sourdough are among the dishes you might find here). It’s the sort of fare you’d want to eat at a homey, neighbourhood spot.
Sitting at the heart of the distillery is an Australian-built 600-litre copper still that gets routinely filled with an organic wheat-based spirit, native botanicals and citrus.
The hardware isn’t the only thing that’s made in Australia. Save for the Macedonian juniper, all the botanicals are sourced from local suppliers and Indigenous-owned businesses. The result is a suite of gins with a pronounced Australian accent derived from botanicals such as native thyme and various myrtles.
