Menu

King Somm has an easygoing attitude, starting with the impressive range of wines available to drink in and take away. Factor in the tight but far-reaching beer range and you’re looking at a neighbourhood bar that thinks – and drinks – big.

There’s a lot to like here. There’s the uncluttered aesthetic that underscores the timeless good looks of the heritage-listed building the venue is in. The warmth of the soundtrack, all vintage speakers and tune-amp-driven. Best of all, though, is the space’s instant sense of warmth and familiarity. First-time visitors to this former billiard hall would be excused for assuming King Somm has been around for far longer than it has.

Slow-fermented pizzas are the hero, made with flour that’s hand-stretched until super pliable and baked in a wood-burning Zesti oven for a crunchy crust (which never goes to waste where King Somm’s dipping pots are concerned). Toppings include Mediterranean-inspired combos such as stracciatella, prosciutto, cherry tomato and basil pesto. The rest of the menu features small plates like duck parfait, and salt and vinegar fries – both of which nod to its sister venue, Juanita’s. On the sweeter side, the deep-fried Nutella bomb has become a thing of legend among locals.

Keeping it neighbourly, the drinks menu features a heap of local vineyards like Vino Volta, Swan Valley Wines and Faber Vineyard. From lo-fi, minimal intervention wines to old-world continental drops, it’s a list curated to satisfy all palates. On tap, you’ll find brews from Freestyle Brewing, Phat Brew Club, Blasta Brewing and more. Ginger beers, ciders and cocktails also make an appearance.
