Jetty Bar & Eats
From behind, Jetty Bar & Eats looks like a heap of shed. And that's exactly the effect that owner Miles Hull was going for. The hospitality veteran, who’s track record includes Little Creatures and Alex Hotel, was inspired by the rough-and-tumble look of the eateries scattered throughout the Greek islands. But on the inside, he's very much about delivering great food and cocktails alongside an outstanding European wine list.
When you enter the galvanised “shack”, the first thing you’ll notice is the interior's cool and timeless look. Timber cladding and rich blue tiling give the room texture. Custom-built fibreglass lights hover over the bar. A washed-out pastel palette gently channels the Mediterranean theme. Sharp design aside, the 120-person bar also has plenty of room, including a dog-friendly, bamboo-roofed outdoor area that hums in summer. It all complements Jetty’s waterside location on East Fremantle’s East Street Jetty
Although Hull has drawn plenty of inspiration from low-key beachside eateries, he also cites a caravan in the Ionian Islands and Cottesloe’s legendary Van Eileen as two particularly influential memories. But he’s pitching Jetty’s food and drink offering a little higher. Greek wines are a particular focus of the cellar while the mixed drinks keep things summery, light and Italian.
To eat, there's a beachy menu that runs the gamut from Portugal all the way to the Turkish coast. Think crab and bechamel croquettes with lemon ricotta and green apple, antipasto selections, and seafood pasta bolognaise with pangrattato. A vertical rotisserie supplies pork and spiced eggplant kebabs with all the trimmings.
