At the back of Five Bar, a piece by Australian artist Daek William occupies the whole wall of an atrium. Above that, three roof pieces can be levered open on sunny days to compensate for the non-existent beer garden.
The atrium is one of five distinct sections of the venue – which is one probable reason for the bar’s name. Some more possibilities: there are five owners and the address starts with a five.
The venue is stocked with the usual wine, cider and spirits, but there’s a particular focus on beer. There are eight taps and Five hosts semi-regular beer events such as Meet the Brewer and Tap Takeovers.
On Thursdays and Sundays the bar is also home to Jerry Fraser, King of Oysters. Other days are given over to specials, including Welly and Wine Mondays and $15 cheap eats on Tuesdays.
The menu is built around snacky, beer-ready food such as popcorn chicken, torched salmon, beef wellington and Reuben sandwiches.
