Ezra Pound
There are plenty of speakeasy-themed bars trying to replicate the atmosphere of American Prohibition, but Ezra Pound is one of the few that’s actually hard to find. Nestled in a laneway accessible from a car park, if Prohibition was in effect, you’d likely still be safe here.
Those who know Ezra Pound are rewarded with a carefully curated beer and wine menu. Cocktails are a focus, with the masterful bar staff capable of anything you can dream up, and plenty you can’t.
Peckish visitors will find satisfying small bites as well, including spiced nuts and charcuterie. Paper bags come as standard with 750-mililitre beer bottles – a cheeky touch.
The ambience is quirky yet warm. Period photos adorn the walls, miscellaneous ornaments fill glass cupboards and seating comes in the form of furniture that could’ve been picked up off the verge. Fitting, for a place named after a London-based American poet inspired by Chinese and Japanese influences.
