Features
Tucked away in leafy Lathlain Place, Cosy Del’s is a local wine bar bringing big Italian flavours and beautiful wines to Perth’s south-east suburbs. It’s by Young Folk Hospitality Co, the same group behind neighbouring Laika Coffee, and the two venues share the humming al fresco area that hosts live music every Thursday night.
Whether you perch outside or in Del’s cosy dining room, head chef Dylan Pettit (ex-Pogo, Sezar, Ezard) is serving a tight, wine-friendly menu highlighting local produce. You might start with a slab of house-baked focaccia with tomato and saffron butter; followed by an orb of creamy burrata served with roasted beetroot, balsamic strawberry and basil oil.
Then it’s onto fresh pastas (think casarecce with wild boar or spinach and ricotta gnocchi) and large dishes like Black Angus scotch fillet served with charred corn, polenta and beef tallow shallots. Don’t leave without a serve of panna cotta for dessert.
The wine list bounces between local and international labels, with a good showing of classic varietals and minimal-intervention drops. Italian sommelier Mattia Sordini has curated around 100 bottles, and there’s plenty here to match whatever’s coming out of the energetic little kitchen.
