The Corner Dairy is all about “good food, good booze and good times”. And indeed, this relaxed all-day spot does exactly what it says on the tin.

Co-owners (and brothers) Tom and Sam Hart keep the place neighbourhood-approachable. The snack-forward menu suits a drop-in date or group dining scenario (it’s top chef James Cole Bowen’s favourite spot for a drink and snack). You might have beef tartare on toast and oysters out on the bar’s deck, or Wagin duck liver parfait or butterflied whole fish to share. A set menu is available for those not in the mood to make decisions.

Produce underpins the menu, from the likes of urban farmers The Mushroom Guys, fishmongers Fins and – intriguingly – a hobby baker in the neighbourhood that bakes outstanding sourdough bread. The Corner Dairy is also a champion of the state’s best independent breweries and wineries, so there’s always a new and interesting drop to try.

Although it’s housed in a former office block, the bar’s name comes from its address on the corner of Woodside Street and Scarborough Beach Road and the area’s history as grazing land for cattle and dairy farmers. Ohlo Studio designed a retro-leaning aesthetic with plenty of timber and chocolate tiling.

The venue’s 120 seats are split evenly between indoors and out. The safari windows open up in the morning so locals can order takeaway coffees.
