Let’s raise a glass to Contemporary Wine In Design, an event that sees the local design scene come together for a day of showroom launches, new collection releases and panel discussions by industry leaders. Restricting myself to just six picks from tomorrow’s program is no mean feat - I’ll be bouncing between venues all day as well as keeping an eye on the #CWID16 hashtag across social media - but for mine, these highlights provide a telling snapshot of what design circa 2016 is all about.
Innerspace has a 10am discussion about the importance of architectural identity and the part building design plays in telling Perth’s story. An accomplished line-up of architects and industry experts will discuss the topic ‘West-Side Stor(e)y’. I’m interested in hearing their point of view on the matter.
Northbridge’s Living Edge’s showroom is a wonderland of luxury furniture. At 10am, pastries will be served and team Living Edge will be debuting the latest collection from Switzerland’s Vitra Home. Don’t get crumbs on the furniture.
Also to be filed under panels-not-to-be-missed: Australian furniture designers and manufacturers Arthur G will be comparing eastern and western design. Local architect David Weir, meanwhile, will lead the discussion on how the words ‘collaboration’, ‘competition’ and ‘co-operation’ are a little too frequently thrown around. Both will also have their new releases on show.
At 10am, Mobilia opens new Claremont headquarters. I’m as excited by checking out the spaceagency-designed showroom as I am browsing the range of European delights. I’m planning on being first through those doors to check out the latest from design heavyweights such as Fritz Hansen, Atelier Areti and Moroso. (now to find someone to buy it for me).
Subiaco’s District (formerly known as Table & Chair) has a full day of food and new-release products lined up. Among the names on show: Magis, Mattiazzi, Normann Copenhagen and Resident. Bunkers Margaret River will be hosting hourly tastings and attendees will also go into a prize draw.
As far as enlightenment goes, it’s difficult to go past ALTI Lighting’s light presentation between 9.30am and 11am. Enjoy coffee and morning treats as ALTI’s technical team talks us through the finer points on lighting and how it works. Finally, someone is going to explain the colour of light.
Contemporary Wine In Design will be held at multiple venues on Saturday October 15. To view the full list of exhibitors and online and register for the day, visit contemporaryau.com/wine-in-design.
