As supply chains tighten and postal deadlines loom, there’s no better time to shop small and local. So add to your IRL cart and support West Australian makers at one of these upcoming holiday markets.

Twilight Christmas Market
At such a busy time of year, being able to multitask with your shopping is a blessing. Perth Maker’s Market is hosting its twilight market on the doorstep of Boola Bardip to give punters a chance to explore the museum while picking up stocking stuffers. Find Indigenous-owned wearJPW’s jewellery pieces crafted from raw sandalwood and polymer clay; Sin Gin Distillery’s Perth Pink gin made with strawberry gum, lemon myrtle and rosella flowers; or thoughtfully designed baby wear from Helenmade Creations. There’s also free face-painting and glitter tattoos for kids (and kids at heart).

November 19, 4pm-9pm
Perth Cultural Centre, Northbridge
Entry is free

Perth Upmarket
Now under the stewardship of market queen Erin Madeley, Perth Upmarket continues to grow into one of Perth’s largest design markets, with more than 200 makers and creators in attendance this year. Artist-designed jigsaw puzzles from Alone Together, hand-printed textiles from U-Chus Fair Trade, and ethical and luxurious body products from Elia Balms & Blends will delight any picky relative. Meanwhile, adjacent event The First at Upmarket Hall lets you get in on the ground floor and support new makers attending their first Upmarket. There’ll be food trucks to keep you sated, too, serving Moroccan street food, bao, gelato and more.

November 28, 10am–4pm
Winthrop Hall, University of Western Australia
Entry is free, but you can register here.

Fremantle Arts Centre’s Bazaar
Fremantle Arts Centre’s market is as much a party as it is a place to find one-of-a-kind gifts. Live music, a bar and food trucks feature alongside 50 local artists and craftspeople selling WA textiles, homewares and ceramics. Pick up hand-knitted pieces from Uffa Collective; of-the-moment, Freo-made vases, keep-cups and bowls by Deep Earth Ceramics; recycled timber furniture by craftsman Tony Docherty; or brighten your life with textiles by Mamy Hews.

1 Finnerty Street, Fremantle

Summer X Salt Market
This award-winning eco-conscious market has been bringing its surf and beach culture-inspired wares, live music and good vibes to Trigg since 2016 (it’s purported to be Perth’s first 100 per cent plastic-free and waste-free event). And the Christmas edition on December 11 is no exception. Shop jewellery by Mermaid Beach Co, upcycled wood and glass art by Paul Vardy Art and much more. There’s a full schedule of free wellness activities, too, including yoga, Pilates and hula-hooping. Plus, food trucks, and coffee and juice carts. Remember to come prepared with your own bags, containers, cutlery and resuseable cups.

December 11, 9am–1pm
Clarko Reserve, West Coast Drive, Trigg
Entry is free

Festive Farmers Markets
City Farm’s market is the only one where the food you buy is grown on-site. It's an opportunity to pick up the same produce supplied to many of Perth’s best bars and restaurants (including Nieuw Ruin, Wines of While and The Humble Onion) for your own Christmas feasts, plucked fresh from the garden beds. Other producers in attendance include Kombination Seafoods, The Woodfired Baker, Regans Ridge Organic Olives and Miso Mushrooms.

December 18, 8am–12pm
1 City Farm Place, East Perth
Entry is free
