When an old Masonic Hall became available three years ago, Pip Brett and Nick Luelf jumped at the chance to open their own retail business. Keeping its original floors, walls and ceilings, it became The Sonic.

The light-flooded space is filled with artwork, homewares and furniture, all lovingly arranged into colour-coordinated nooks, which are perfect spots for reading while you wait for your takeaway coffee.

In the back section you’ll find Nimrods, which serves great coffee, brunch and smoothies. (There’s also a wheelchair-accessible entrance.)

A range of workshops and exhibitions are held in the space as well, and the owners have recently branched out into running international group tours.
