Features
Humble on Duke is a buzzy, 14-seat restaurant that encapsulates the neighbourhood vibe at Sunshine Beach, where locals visit for an intimate set menu dining experience packed with Middle Eastern flavours.
Vibrant shades of pink and green painted on the walls make the space pop – and often match the dresses of maître d' Jade Tareha, who co-owns the restaurant with partner and chef Stacey Conner. Prior to opening Humble, Conner did a stint in the Middle East assisting with the opening of celebrity chef Sean Connolly’s eponymous restaurant at Dubai Opera, and her love of the region’s cuisines stars on every plate here.
Humble’s seasonally driven fare creates a colourful spread, with snacks like icli kofte (Turkish stuffed meatballs) served with minted yoghurt, and smoky baba ganoush to get you started. Large plates follow, such as grilled Wagyu rump cap with a super-savoury burnt onion mayo and saucy mushrooms.
Depending on hunger levels and the size of your group, you can add snacks, sides and dessert to the set offering, including the burrata with pear, honey and almonds, or the peanut butter parfait with raspberry ice-cream, tahini caramel and kataifi (a stringy, Greek-style pastry).
The wine list is small but mighty, with a big representation of South Australian wine to reflect Tareha’s home state. Otherwise, most bottles are Australian, with the odd champagne or Chablis thrown in. Cocktails are simple and fresh, featuring local distillers such Noosa Gin in the Strawberry Gin Fizz, and Noosa Vodka in the Limoncello Smash.
