City Gallery Wellington (Te Whare Toi in Māori) is an impressive sight on one side of Civic Square. It has seven galleries within it, which host an ever-changing collection of exhibitions – plus events such as artists’ talks, film screenings and performances.

Central to the gallery’s approach is a desire to spark curiosity through art, and it does this by choosing shows that challenge, inspire and contribute to today’s cultural discourse. It has built an increasingly global reputation over the years thanks to previous shows such as Hilma af Kint: The Secret Paintings, Cindy Sherman and Yayoi Kusama: Mirrored Years.
