Dining at Rita is like eating in the living room of owners Kelda Hains, Paul Schrader and Kahlivia Russell. The restaurant is set in a small workers’ cottage at the bottom of Aro Valley, just a short walk from Cuba Street.
Wednesday to Saturday evenings, you can order a seasonally led three-course set meal – starter, main and dessert – served in two staggered seatings from 5.30pm. The food is simple yet sublime and there’s always a vegetarian set-menu option available.
The interior is pared back and comfortable, and the largest group size taken is six people (one per sitting), which ensures the vibe remains intimate as Schrader looks after the room with attentive, intuitive service. It’s a special experience.
