Annabel’s

Neighbourhood wine bar Annabel’s is so much more than a watering hole, thanks to owners Henry Mitchell Temple steadily evolving the place since opening in 2017.

Now, it’s an all-day spot, open seven days a week. Stop in from early morning until 3pm for coffee, granola and sourdough toast with various toppings, plus a small but tasty selection of baguettes and sandwiches.

From 5pm until late, a menu of diverse nibbles is prepared in a tiny section of the back bar. Dishes such as lamb meatballs with salsa verde, fritto misto, fried potatoes with aioli, and Te Kouma Bay Oysters with mignonette are sophisticated and satisfying.

Annabel’s’ wine program changes from season to season, with the selection featuring organic drops and bottles from smaller producers around the world.

Catch the afternoon sun, Aperol Spritz in hand, at one of the communal tables out the front. The bar inside Annabel’s sweeps nearly the whole length of the long, narrow space, running parallel to a furrowed leather banquette dotted with small, low tables. The vibe is usually relaxed and lowkey, which amps up when there’s a guest DJ set or special event.
