By the time Light From Tate: 1700s to Now opens in March 2023, it will have been six years since Auckland Art Gallery Toi o Tāmaki last worked with Tate UK.

The exhibition, which showed at Melbourne's ACMI in June, has been curated from the famous London art gallery’s collection and is themed around how light has inspired and enthralled artists over the centuries.

“Every space is a homage to the transformative power of light and to the artists who sought to harness and explore it,” says Auckland Art Gallery director Kirsten Lacy. “Throughout the exhibition, visitors will encounter a variety of ideas and theories and will experience the sensory and emotional impacts of light.”

The exhibition continues Auckland Art Gallery’s stellar run of shows featuring globally famous artists, with Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera: Art and Life in Modern Mexico currently on until January 22.
