Naumi Studio Hotel Wellington
Situated on Cuba Street among its many cafes, restaurants and boutiques, Naumi Studio Hotel Wellington has become a landmark in the capital. It’s known for its colourful, eccentric aesthetic, with all the rooms and shared spaces themed in different vibrant tones and patterns.
Furnishings are quirky and textural, and the hotel worked with some notable New Zealand artists and designers on key pieces. Karl Maughan designed the printed rugs; you can sip a cocktail under a Judy Darragh floral sculpture; and the atrium houses an Angus Muir Design statement light in the shape of a bouquet.
Of the hotel’s 116 rooms, you can choose from six different styles and sizes – all themed with one of four colour palettes (purple, orange, blue or red). There are three different queen rooms (including an accessible design with extra space and accessible bathrooms), a twin room, a junior suite and an executive suite.
They’re undeniably eye-catching, but the rooms are also full of comfortable features, with every room including a smart TV with Netflix, mood lighting, high-speed wi-fi, and heating and cooling. The executive suite has a spacious lounge and bar area.
Find the hotel’s food and drink offering on the ground floor. There’s the Lola Rouge Restaurant, with a Southeast Asian-inspired menu and a fittingly rouge-themed fit-out. In the cosy, dimly lit Grand Bar, there’s a curated cocktail list and selection of award-winning New Zealand wines. The bar’s sumptuous lounge area is filled with books and ornaments from Lady Naumi’s travels – she is the fictional “first owner” of the hotel, whose portrait looms behind the reception desk.
The saturated green-and-pastel-pink Parlour is a more daytime-appropriate space where you can nibble on high tea or sip a few cocktails.
Naumi Hotels is a family-owned hospitality label based in Singapore, with seven properties across Singapore, Australia and New Zealand. In Aotearoa, there is also the Central Private Hotel and the Dairy Private Hotel (both in Queenstown), and Naumi Auckland Airport.
