Gorgeous views, ancient forests, world-class whisky and the finest fresh produce available: whatever you’re seeking, Tasmania is the ideal place to find it.

In partnership with Airbnb, Broadsheet is sending one lucky devil (and a friend) on a weekend adventure through northern Tasmania.

Your journey begins on Friday, February 21, with a flight from your nearest capital city across the churning waters of the Bass Strait, touching down in Launceston. After collecting your vehicle, you’re set to cruise the wilds of Tasmania’s stunning north-west, passing the imposing spectacle of Cradle Mountain on your way to the historic village of Waratah (the first town in the country to have streetlights).

There, you’ll check in at the heritage-listed Bischoff Hotel, overlooking the famous Waratah Falls. The Bischoff is the perfect base from which to explore the region. It’s also the perfect spot to do absolutely nothing, while being fed by the in-house restaurant.

After breakfast on Saturday morning, it’s whisky time. Head north to Hellyers Road Distillery on the outskirts of Burnie, a port town on the island’s northern coast. Lunch is included as part of your visit, as is the signature whisky walk – a behind-the-scenes look at how Hellyers makes one of the finest single malts on the planet. You’ll get to pour and wax-seal your very own bottle, complete with a signed certificate of authenticity.

The afternoon provides another chance to take in the region’s sublime landscape as you travel east along the coast before checking into Forth River Cottage B&B. Located on the banks of the Forth River, it’s an idyllic setting – especially as you’ll have the entire joint to yourselves.

Come evening, it’s time for dinner at Mrs Jones Restaurant Bar Lounge, located above the Devonport Surf Club. Relax at the copper-clad bar or settle into one of the leather sofas to take in the magnificent view through the floor-to-ceiling windows. The menu reflects a passion for local produce, and the extensive wine list adds to what is already a unique dining experience on Tasmania’s north coast.

This northern Tassie getaway is reserved for the weekend of February 21 to 23, 2020, and the competition runs from November 25 to January 16.
