The inclusions
If you’re our lucky winner, you’ll get to pick a friend to join you to fly to Auckland and then on to Kerikeri in the beautiful Bay of Islands, in New Zealand’s Far North, on Friday March 1, 2024. You will then jump in a rental car to drive to Russell to stay at the history-rich Duke of Marlborough pub, which dates back to 1827. You’ll stay in a waterfront room, adorned with colourful prints by New Zealand artist Lester Hall, with a balcony that opens up to stunning views of the Bay of Islands.
After a good night’s sleep and complimentary breakfast, it’s time to head out into nature. The next day (Saturday March 2) you’ll enjoy a dolphin cruise in a purpose-built vessel, complete with indoor and outdoor seats designed to get up-close close views of the dolphins as they swim past. There’s also a stopover at Otehei Bay on Urupukapuka Island, where you can expect to lay back on white sand beaches and soak in gorgeous hilltop views of the entire Bay of Islands. That night, you’ll stay at the intimate Paroa Bay Vineyard Cottage flanked by acres of coastal gardens, and dine at the hotel and winery’s in-house restaurant, Sage, enjoying a menu that goes large on fresh seafood from the Bay of Islands.
If you’re up for an adventure, you can start day three (Sunday March 3) with a two-hour kayaking trip on the main beach in Paihia, right in the heart of the Bay of Islands. Otherwise, spend the morning exploring all that Paihia has to offer, before heading to the Waitangi Treaty Grounds for an inspiring tour through the country’s most important historic site, where New Zealand’s founding document was signed in 1840. Then it’s on to Omata Estate, for a shared food platter and a wine tasting set against jaw-dropping peninsula views.
After staying a second night at Paroa Bay, you’ll spend the fourth day (Monday March 4) travelling to Whangārei, the largest city in Northland region. You’ll visit the nearby Whangārei Falls before enjoying a waterside lunch at The Quay Kitchen and a visit to the Hundertwasser Art Centre, home to the largest afforested rooftop in the southern hemisphere.
Then it’s back to Auckland to stay at QT Hotel, where you can have dinner and drinks on the rooftop overlooking the harbour and city. Retreat to your room for a well-deserved rest in a room inspired by Auckland’s scenery. You’ll have some time the next day (Tuesday March 5, 2024) for exploring the city before flying back to Australia.
