Neutral teak and canvas interiors, a sumptuous four-poster bed, a deep two-person bath and a fireplace – sounds better than many Sydney apartments, right? Yet these are some of the comforts included when you book one of the six new tents that have been pitched at NSW bush retreat Turon Gates.

The private, self-catered, adult-only 75-square-metre Glamour Glamping tents are situated on a river in a 6000-acre pocket north-east of the Blue Mountains, 3.5 hours from the city. From the day lounge and hammock on your large outdoor deck you can see horses, mountains and bushland with birds, kangaroos and other Aussie wildlife. Each tent is insulated and has window coverings to keep out the brisk mountain weather.

“Our guests love that they can choose to go bush horseriding or have an in-tent massage,” says Kirsten Lunoe, owner of Turon Gates. “If guests then want to venture out and explore local happenings, Katoomba, Mudgee, Bathurst and Lithgow are within easy reach, but the magic of Turon tends to stop the urge to venture elsewhere.”

So could the welcome bottle of local wine and honey, and the magazines, board games and books in your tent. There’s wi-fi on the property if you need it, an in your kitchenette, a Nespresso coffee machine and cooking gear.

If you’re more camp than glamp, there’s bushland for you to pitch your own tent, and cabins, cottages and other slightly less fancy glamping tents. (You’re allowed to bring your children and pets to those.) Also, Turon Gates is completely solar-powered.

Turon Gates’s Glamour Camping tents are in Capertee, NSW , and tents start from $237 per night.
