Most hotels have tinnies waiting for you in the minibar (bonus if they’re from a craft brewery) – but how many have a beer tap that lets you pour out a fresh lager? The answer, according to Brewdog, is not enough – so it’s planning to open a craft-beer hotel in Brisbane with that feature.

The Scottish brewery has announced the hotel, Doghouse Brisbane, will be located near its first, and so far only, Australian brewery and taproom. It’ll be based on the model of its first craft-beer hotel, in Columbus, Ohio (which is also home to the brand’s US headquarters).

The Brisbane version will have beer fridges in the showers and draft-beer taps in the hotel rooms filled with its core Punk IPA. And you can take your dog along with you – it says the hotel will be pooch-friendly.

Details are scarce, but Brewdog’s original Doghouse might give us an indication of what else to expect. It has 32 beer-themed rooms (including eight deluxe suites) overlooking the brewery’s large beer barrels; beer-paired continental breakfast; multiple bars and a full-service restaurant; and craft beer-infused soaps and shampoos. Plus, you’re offered a beer as soon as you check in.

Doghouse Brisbane is part of the brewery’s plans to “supercharge” its expansion in Australia. Sydney, Melbourne and Perth are getting new brewpubs, fitted out with micro-brewing facilities to allow for fresh beers poured on-site. A second Brisbane bar is also on the way.

And the current headquarters is getting an upgrade too, with more seating (both outside and in the shade); a pasteuriser to expand the alcohol-free beer range; a new private event space; a larger takeaway shop; and more kitchen space.

Doghouse Brisbane is slated to open in 2022.
