From record hunting and pre-show Cosmopolitans to vineyard lunches and west coast escapes, make a long weekend of it. In partnership with 100% Pure New Zealand, here’s what to do pre- and post-concert.

· Published on 21 Sep 2026

If you scored tickets to Olivia Dean’s New Zealand concert on Saturday October 17, consider yourself lucky – the neo-soul and pop darling caused such “phenomenal demand” it prompted an upgrade to Western Springs Bowl, a larger venue.

For equally memorable eating, drinking, shopping and sightseeing in the days either side of the show, our itinerary will help you find it So Easy (To Fall in Love) with Auckland.

Friday

Arriving the day before will let you get your bearings. After landing, check into your accommodation and drop your bags – then let your getaway begin. The British singer-songwriter has said that her latest album, The Art of Loving, was inspired by the famous bell hooks book All About Love, so why not pick up a copy as a souvenir from one of Auckland’s independent bookstores?

Lamplight Books in Parnell is a light-filled haven for arts lovers, while Time Out Bookstore in Mt Eden is known for its passionate, knowledgeable staff. At The Women’s Bookshop in Ponsonby, you’ll find many other gems to weigh down your suitcase, and Unity Books in the CBD is loved for its elite selection. Olivia Dean is also famously a huge fan of vinyl, so, in her honour, head up to Karangahape Road for record hunting at Flying Nun Records.

While you’re there, rifle through the racks of vintage clothing at Crushes on K’ Road or trot up to Ponsonby consignment store Scotties Recycle. There, you’ll find mint condition second-hand designer pieces from the likes of Dries Van Noten, The Row and Acne Studios. It’s an easy way to add a little pizzazz to your concert ’fit, or just have fun dressing up in the different stores. For dinner, cosy up at Pici for handmade pasta and wine or enjoy a Lebanese feast at Michelin Bib Gourmand-recognised Gemmayze Street (both in St Kevins Arcade off Karangahape Road). If you’re staying centrally, the cocktails from bar Panacea are perfect for a meticulous, inventive nightcap.

Saturday

Start show day the wholesome way by exploring Auckland’s natural surroundings. Feel the wind in your hair and spend the morning spotting some of the harbour city’s marine life on a tour with Auckland Whale & Dolphin Safari in the Hauraki Gulf, or get the blood flowing with a walk up Maungawhau / Mt Eden – the breathtaking views of the city at the top are worth the trek.

Once you’re back at ground level, fuel up with coffee and something sweet nearby. Coffee Pen’s cabinet treats are legendary, Parable House is the spot for specialty brews, or make a pastry pilgrimage to Mibo’s Mt Eden branch.

For dinner near the Western Springs Bowl before the concert, head to buzzy Mother in Grey Lynn for small plates and wine or neighbourhood favourite Lilian just up the road for woodfired pizza and tiramisu. Nearby Freida’s is great for a cosy drink, too.

Then, of course, the main event – let loose and feel Olivia Dean’s soulful tunes and tender lyrics move through you as you sing along to the big hits like Dive, Man I Need, Lady Lady and more. Plus, the catharsis you’ll feel will prepare you for the next couple days of your trip.

There’s no need to call it a night after the encore; head back to the city for a cocktail at Caretaker, a subterranean bar in Britomart, or make for Matchbox in Ponsonby, order a Cosmopolitan (Dean’s favourite drink) and drink to the woman of the hour.

Sunday

The antidote to a late night is an island escape. Catch the morning ferry from downtown Auckland to Waiheke Island, where you’ll find vineyards, beaches, olive groves and galleries.

Start in Oneroa Village with coffee from The Island Grocer before wandering down to the beach. If the weather plays ball, follow the coast from Oneroa towards Little Oneroa before turning your attention to one of Waiheke’s foremost talents: lunch.

Dine among the vines at Tantalus Estate or Mudbrick, each of which were awarded a Michelin star in New Zealand’s inaugural 2026 Michelin Guide. For a stellar beachside lunch, visit recently reopened Ki Māha in Onetangi.

Then spend the afternoon tasting freshly pressed olive oil among the trees at Allpress Olive Groves, or take to the treetops with Ecozip Adventures. If you’d rather let someone else handle the logistics, Terra & Tide offers guided island experiences, while Fullers 360 runs hop-on, hop-off buses and packaged day trips that make it easy to explore without nominating a designated driver.

And if you decide one day isn’t enough, you could stay overnight. For a getaway with stunning views and private beach access, check into one of the luxurious Omana villas, or Kaitiako Lodge, which sits on 10 acres of native bushland in Onetangi.

Monday

If you have an extra day for exploring, head north towards Matakana (around an hour’s drive from the CBD) and join a private Matakana Food & Wine Region Tour from Time Unlimited Tours. It’s a tantalising way to enjoy the region’s bounty with crisp air and the sun on your skin, alongside a selection of the best honeys, cheeses, yoghurts, chocolates and more.

Alternatively, head west and discover Auckland’s wilder side around 40 kilometres west of the CBD in the Waitākere Ranges, where native rainforest tumbles down to the black-sand beaches and surf breaks of the west coast.

For a serene trip finale, book a 90-minute Fern Bath Forest Immersion at Velskov – the perfect combination of mindful forest-walking, scenic views and a herbal tea ritual. To cover more ground, a Bush and Beach walking day tour takes you through the rainforests and black sands of Auckland’s west coast.

On your way back to Auckland, make time to stop in Titirangi Village on the way for contemporary art at Te Uru Waitākere Contemporary Gallery, then grab coffee and a sourdough sandwich at The Crafty Baker for your journey.

Olivia Dean may be your reason for coming to Auckland, but the city itself knows how to draw you in.
