Melbourne-based travel agency Luxury Escapes is giving away $200 million worth of international travel vouchers to anyone jabbed with their first dose of Pfizer or Astrazeneca by September 30, 2021.

The incentive, running on the company’s website from today, requires applicants to create a Luxury Escapes account and register proof of their vaccination online. The first one million people to do so will be rewarded with a $200 voucher to use on future overseas travel with Luxury Escapes. There are Ts&Cs, of course. You’ll need to use your voucher before June 30, 2022 – though the trip can take place after that date. Vouchers will be valid for “Limited Time Lux Exclusive” trips, international tours and cruises on the company’s Australian website.

Adam Schwab, co-founder and CEO at Luxury Escapes, says, “We recognise the crucial role vaccines will play in ensuring borders open so Aussies can travel again. We hope [the incentive] will give our vaccine rollout a massive boost and inspire other businesses to follow suit.”

You can check whether or not you’re eligible for a Covid-19 vaccine here. For Australians aged 18 to 39 who do not meet any of the current eligibility criteria, there’s the option to contact your GP to request an Astrazeneca vaccine following a recent announcement by Prime Minister Scott Morrison. Otherwise, it’s likely Australians under 40 will be part of the wider (Pfizer or Moderna) vaccine rollout from September/October 2021, according to the head of the Covid-19 vaccine taskforce.

In the Luxury Escapes survey, 80 per cent of respondents said overseas travel was their number one reason for getting vaccinated. Right now overseas travel is banned, unless you’re travelling within the Trans-Tasman Bubble, which requires a negative test no more than 72 hours before you depart or an exemption from the Australian Border Force.

Australia closed its international borders to all non-citizens and non-residents in March 2020. There’s no definitive date for lifting Australia’s overseas travel ban. Luxury Escapes says when it comes to global travel, its survey respondents are most excited about booking trips to the UK, Bali and Singapore.
