The World’s 50 Best Hotels 2026 Has Revealed Its Longlist – and One Australian Hotel Made the Cut

The Calile hotel in Brisbane has placed at number 83 in the World’s 50 Best Hotels 2026 rankings – the sole Australian property in the just-announced longlist of hotels ranked from 51 to 100.

Two Australian hotels made it into last year’s top 50, with Capella Sydney coming in at 12 and The Calile at 34. South Australia’s Southern Ocean Lodge made the 2025 longlist at 69 and was also awarded the One to Watch Award.

The extended list – which was introduced last year to highlight a greater breadth of hotels excelling in hospitality – spans 23 territories and 40 cities. Asia has the highest number of ranked hotels of any continent, with 20 properties on the 51 to 100 list. Japan dominates the region with seven properties making the grade: Janu Tokyo, Park Hyatt Tokyo, The Okura, Palace Hotel Tokyo, Hoshinoya Tokyo, Hotel The Mitsui and Waldorf Astoria Osaka are the names to know. Closer to home, just one other property in Oceania made the cut, with New Zealand’s Huka Lodge in Taupō ranking at 82.

The list is determined by the votes of more than 800 anonymous experts from The World’s 50 Best Hotels Academy, which includes a mix of hoteliers, travel journalists, educators and other well-travelled experts.

“The 51–100 list recognises 50 more exceptional hotels that represent the very best of global hospitality,” said Faye Huggett, director of community for The World’s 50 Best Hotels, in a press release. “This extended list broadens the spotlight to a remarkable community of properties and the passionate people who bring them to life – each one defining what great hospitality means today.”

The World’s 50 Best Hotels 2026 list, which will reveal the properties ranked from 50 to 1, will be announced on Tuesday September 15 at an awards ceremony at Les Salles du Carrousel in Paris.
