Aussie furniture brand RJ Living recently opened the doors at its new, light-filled showroom in Melbourne’s inner-east.

The fit-out is warm and tactile, paying homage to its roots in solid oak furniture, but design choices like moss-toned tiles, brass details and indoor-outdoor vignettes keep the space feeling distinctly of-the-moment.

For RJ Living’s in-house designer Jess Galtry, the store reflects some of the key interior design trends taking off in Australian homes this year. Speaking to Broadsheet, she shares the colours and shapes that are resonating with people – along with relevant pieces to shop.

Rounded and exaggerated forms

“We’re seeing a continued love for curved, sculptural silhouettes – think oversized arms, playful proportions and softened edges,” says Galtry. “These forms invite comfort while making a strong design statement. It’s a natural evolution of the desire for more tactile, approachable spaces.”

With soft curves and statement proportions, RJ Living beds like the Restore in eden ecru and Floss in fossil fawn capture elements of this design trend.

The rise of green

Green continues to dominate interiors in 2025,” says Galtry. “From verdant leafy tones to grounded hues like olive and eucalyptus, these shades evoke a sense of calm and connection to nature, which is becoming increasingly essential in today’s fast-paced world.”

Pieces like the Berg sofa in eden leaf, styled with the Arwyn rug in pistachio prove that green doesn’t just belong on your walls or planters.

Neutrals with a twist

“With Pantone’s Colour of the Year, mocha mousse, rich cocoa tones are having a moment,” says Galtry. “While browns have traditionally been paired with soft creams in minimalist palettes, we’re now seeing them contrasted with delicate blush and powdery blues. It’s a shift toward neutrals with personality, depth and softness.”

Look to RJ Living’s Stretch sofa in corduroy cocoa and Anya rug in pink salt for a rich and cosy palette that form a strong base for layering.

You can shop the brand’s furniture collection online or in-store at RJ Living’s Melbourne and Sydney showrooms.
