Australian costume designer Catherine Martin has married her penchant for art deco design with Maison Balzac’s signature chic in a new collaborative collection.
“I am so proud to have been able to bring [Martin’s] fabulous, timeless aesthetic to life as a glassware collection. It is a dream come true,” Elise Pioch, Maison Balzac’s founder, says.
The eight-piece capsule is filled with objets d’art. “Unlike the rest of our collection, these pieces are heavily adorned, which means that they can decorate a room, kitchen bench or coffee table on their own, without drinks or food in them,” Pioch says.
Palm fronds adorn wine glasses, platters and candle holders. The Deco cocktail glasses are primed for pina coladas and the coordinating goblets echo Maison Balzac’s idiosyncratic water glasses, but with the addition of a mint green “cloud” base. The mood is cocktail hour glamour.
Pink and green are the hero hues. And there is a strong feline feel, evident in the leopard motif that adorns packaging, as well as the singular scented candle, aptly named Panthera. “We created a scent that we imagine embodies the smell of a leopard’s fur,” Pioch says. Notes of clove, guaiac wood and Peru balsam are “blended as a warm, velvet, magnetic scent”.
The collection is now available at maisonbalzac.com, as well as the brand’s Surry Hills and Armadale boutiques.
