It looks like there’s a revival coming for Fenton & Fenton. The eclectic Melbourne-based interiors label – which went into liquidation in early August – has been acquired by the Berkowitz Furniture group and is set to resume trading before the end of the year.
Under the deal, founder Lucy Fenton will stay on as creative director while the new parent company takes over long-term strategy and management processes, according to a statement released today.
“This has been an extremely challenging time for the business, our customers, staff and suppliers and I am pleased to have found a solution that enables us to continue Fenton & Fenton into the next chapter,” Fenton says.
“This new partnership gives us the confidence to plan for the future, and we look forward to welcoming our loyal fans back to the brand.”
Berkowitz Furniture is a family group with a longstanding reputation in Melbourne furniture and design. As well as retailing sofas, tables and home decor under its own name, the company’s portfolio includes brands such as Molmic, Stressless and Weave.
Owner Peter Berkowitz says his group has the chops to support Fenton & Fenton’s revival. “We bring five generations of experience to this new partnership, along with the trust we have earned here in Melbourne over more than a century," he says.
“We know what this design institution means to so many people and we are dedicated to preserving its unique, colourful identity and independence.”
Today’s statement also includes an update for current Fenton & Fenton customers, with news that current orders will be “fulfilled where possible and gift cards honoured with some conditions”.
The company’s landing page now includes FAQs and contact details for people chasing outstanding orders.
Founded in 2008, Fenton & Fenton’s product line includes furniture, linen, rugs, fashion, artwork, jewellery and taxidermy – with a large contingent of wares from Australian makers and artists.
Plans are underway to reopen retail and e-commerce operations later this year.
