We’ve Finally Found a Stylish Sofa Bed That Delivers a Great Night’s Sleep

My house is where friends naturally gather. I like to think it’s down to the vibe but really, it’s about convenience. With a slew of great bars on my doorstep, the call for last drinks is often followed by the familiar question: “To Sim’s?” 

Sleepovers come with the territory. And until recently, what followed was rarely dignified. Four versus one in the battle with the inflatable mattress. Someone Googling how to use a Dyson as an airpump. Me apologising for the slow leak that guarantees a 3am meeting with the floor.

So, you can imagine my excitement when Eva’s Slideaway Sofa bed arrived at the house. It’s actually a three-in-one: a sofa, a day bed and an actual bed, all at once. 

The setup

The phrase “sofa bed” conjures many images – none of them great, in my experience. Trapped fingers, clunky pull-outs in cheap Airbnbs and a mechanical process requiring a Youtube tutorial and a deep breath.

Eva’s Slideaway avoids all of that. There’s no unfolding, unhooking or hauling. The base simply pulls out from beneath the seat in one smooth motion, transforming the sofa into a day bed. From there, the foam cushioning can be reconfigured into its third mode: a queen-size bed.

The initial build took less than 10 minutes. With a design that eliminates the need for tools entirely, the box includes just two parts (the frame and the base), 10 hand screws and three legs to fasten – before dressing the cushions in their covers.

The look

The Slideaway doesn’t scream “I double as a bed”. In its couch form, it reads as a considered, modern sofa – low-profile, clean-line and unfussy. One I’d happily choose for my living room, even without the added functionality.

The frame is made from solid American ash timber, giving it a robustness without tipping into bulky territory. 

The upholstery hits a sweet spot: soft and comfortable, but durable enough to handle real life. The covers are removable and machine-washable, which is non-negotiable if, like me, your sofa regularly hosts red wine, pizza nights and the occasional furry friend.

There are four fabric options – classic weave, French linen, chenille and a chunky weave – with 11 colourways. I opted for the chenille in slate, which looks smart without feeling precious. (Eva offers free fabric swatches to help you make your choice.)

The comfort

What really sets this sofa bed apart is the fully slatted base. A lot of sofa beds use a metal grid or a mix system of slats and elastic webbing, which means an uneven sleeping surface and, when the webbing loses tension, that sag and dip effect. That doesn’t happen with the Slideaway’s slatted system.

The cushioning is supportive without being stiff (it does lean firm, though), which means it works for sitting, lounging and sleeping. There’s no dreaded bar in the back, no sagging centre and no mysterious lumps or bumps.

While I won’t be abandoning my bed, the Slideaway more than holds its own for house guests, daytime downtime and those nights when your partner’s snoring inspires a change of scenery.
