Barista-style espresso machines, cloud-like winter doonas and object-shaped everything. Here’s everything we’re adding to cart from Tekla, In The Roundhouse, Loewe and more.

After collecting this month’s wishlist items from the team, it’s safe to conclude that Broadsheet staff are pretty big fans of mimetic home decor. In May, a fusilli pasta candle, pear-shaped sugar pot and cutlery with spiralled escargot ends made the cut. And a tomato-scented candle shows the trend extends beyond appearance.

But if playful designs aren’t your aesthetic, there are also functional cooking tools and luxe designer rugs among other picks, too. Here’s everything we’re wish-listing this month.

A chopping board, peeler, fish glasses, doona, candle and throw

I just bought this julienne peeler and I fear it’ll be the best $11 I’ve ever spent. (Like, it might actually make me stop spending $7 on matcha lattes and only spend my change on one-trick kitchen utensils.) To make weeknight cooking even brighter, I’m also considering this recycled chopping board and this very prawny juice glass; to me, it’s the only fish in the sea I need.

Beyond the kitchen, I’m working on making my bedroom the cosiest place in all the land for winter. So naturally, a Bonny doona, chequered merino throw and fusilli candle (that I wish I could eat) are going on my list.

Throw cushions, espresso machine, Aesop handwash and a pyjama shirt

I’ve never been much of a cushion person (scandalous, I know) but I’ve recently converted thanks to Sage & Clare’s gorgeous embroidered cushions. This one is maximalist, punchy and so pretty.

Now that the temperature’s dropping, I love having friends over. I’m working on my at-home barista skills and have my eye on Lelit’s Elizabeth espresso machine. Before guests arrive, I love refreshing my hand towels and doing a quick once-over of the place. Having nice handwash, like this classic Aesop one, makes all the difference. Speaking of staying in, I’m raising my pyjama game this winter. Tekla is a stunning label; I can’t promise that this shirt will be reserved for sleepwear.

Red wine vinegar, silver cutlery, a striped bathrobe, merino wool rug, sandalwood body lotion and a ceramic mug

I’m catching Tax Vinegar’s second skin-contact release before it’s all gone. I’ll be splashing it through salads and drizzling it over artichokes (as the local brand suggests), before munching it down using Maison Balzac’s L’Escargot cutlery.

After every good meal comes some well-earned relaxation, so I’ll be cosying up with In Bed’s striped bathrobe while it’s 30 per cent off, and a rug from Double’s washable New Zealand wool collection to warm my space. But only after I’ve drenched my skin in Necessaire’s sandalwood-scented body lotion and set my tea to brew in Jedda’s PJ mug.

A merino wool throw, cookware, candle and a mug

Just in time for cooler weather, Hommey does it again with its new range of merino alpaca throws. There are so many fun colours to choose from, but I’ll be opting for merlot. The cosy vibes continue with Our Place’s ceramic duo set as I prepare to batch-cook soup over winter. But it’s not a luxurious night in without setting the atmosphere, and this new Paul Smith rose candle is an obvious choice. Beyond its delightful scent, the vessel will be the perfect toothbrush holder once I’ve burnt through all the wax. And I’ll be doing it all with a tea in hand thanks to Le Creuset’s stoneware mug.

A pizza oven, tablecloth, dinner plates, serving bowl, drinking glasses, a set of knives and a tomato-scented candle

I adore my Ooni. This portable little guy has fired pizzas in my backyard many a time – and will again soon for a friend’s birthday. I’ve got dreams of dressing up my table, and I’m eyeing off the Asouvla tablecloth in citrus pinstripes – from a Sydney couple with hospo ties – to backdrop dreamy green scalloped plates from In the Roundhouse and a sunshine-y Flow Bowl from Dinosaur Designs full of dressed leaves. And it wouldn’t be a party without some glass pompoms and a set of knives (to sharpen my pizza skills). In my dreams, I’d have the Loewe tomato candle burning too.

Serving spoons, a snail incense holder, pear-shaped sugar pot, orb lamp and a goose planter

I have a thing for spoons. I love these small enamel ones from Leif and this big yellow one from Coming Soon. I also love this marble snail incense holder from Maison Balzac, pear-shaped sugar pot from Osara and this orb-like lamp from Soho Home. And I must have this goose planter from Urban Outfitters. She is me and I am her.

A designer rug, Ninja food processor and dinner plates

Who knew Dinosaur Designs made rugs? Not me, and now I want this one. But will the dog have his way with it, like every rug that came before? He does have impeccable taste…

Perhaps the little bugger will settle for his actual dinner, a medley of raw veg and turkey mince blitzed to perfection in this Ninja food processor. I’d even serve it on fine china from In The Roundhouse if it kept him away from my expensive new rug.

Bath towels, Ikkari handwash, a casserole dish, dinner plate set and a lampshade

I recently visited a gorgeous Airbnb in Red Hill for a little weekend staycay, and it’s safe to say the cottage’s rustic, pared-back interiors gave me some serious inspiration (read: made me want to instantly swap out everything in my home). I want my bathroom to have a spa-like feel with fringed linen bath towels from Cultiver and Ikkari handwash that smells as lush as the bottle looks. In the kitchen we used this sleek black Kitchenaid casserole dish to chef up a feast. I’d like to add one to my own pot drawer and I’ll serve the meal on this 12-piece dinner set by Robert Gordon. My favourite detail in the house was a glowing Akari lamp above the dining table. I’d like to hang this one in my bedroom, pretty please.
