The Wishlist: All the Homewares Broadsheet Editors Are Coveting in June

It’s hibernation season – and cosy dinner parties are back. To prepare, we’re setting the table with Citta’s seagrass placemats, Gustaf Westman’s chunky Pinterest-approved plates and Tanchen Studio’s beaded coasters, among other hosting picks.

Naturally, cold-weather staples dominate our wishlists this month: sheepskin mules, cloud-like doonas and trusty door noodles all make the cut. But there’s also a hit of dopamine decor for brightening up the winter gloom. Here’s everything the Broadsheet team is adding to cart this month.

Winter is here but the insulation in my inner-north rental is not, so I’m eyeing off a chic door snake to keep the draught at bay. Temple and Webster has them in three colours – no daggy florals in sight. I’ve also been in the market for a blanket to cosy up with on the couch, and I think I’ve found the one in Slow Down Studio’s Essien throw. And since I’ll be spending more time at home over the next few months, I’m keen for a little homewares refresh to keep things interesting. This Gustaf Westman chunky plate and these Sophie Lou Jacobsen coasters are already in my cart.

My house is currently an icebox, so I’m looking to warm up with an (overdue) upgrade to Bonny’s winter-weight doona , plus my feet may need a fun pair of Volley sheepskin mules. I’ve also been eyeing this black and white French flax linen doona cover from Queensland label I Love Linen. I already have some very comfy pillowcases from this brand – now I need to collect it all.

Next on the winter shopping list: dopamine decor. I’d love to snuggle on the couch with this psychedelic merino throw from cult label Wah-Wah , maybe teamed with a luxe velvet trapeze girl cushion from Melody Rose London via Wolf & Badger. I’ll also add this literal Dopamine incense burner – 3D-printed from recyclable plant-based material by Melbourne’s Boom Room – and local label Yolkeye’s handmade ceramic XXL dumpling wall hanging.

My current Pinterest obsession is finding inspiration for my bedside table decor. There’s something so satisfying about a curated corner of small (pretty) things that greet you every morning. I want a minimalist lamp like this one from Tom Dixon and a classic Maison Balzac carafe sitting next to it. Trinkets and loose jewels will live in this sculptural ring dish , and I’m stacking a couple of fashion coffee table books underneath it. While we’re here, I might as well add a vintage-style teak side table to the wishlist.

Some of the blood oranges in my backyard dropped early this year and it’s inspired me to invest in a good juicer. This design by Hay has been on my wishlist for a while and, at almost 40 per cent off, it’s finally time to hit “go”.

Speaking of benchtop beauties, Lelit’s Bianca coffee machine recently became mine, so now I need a set of vessels worthy of such an upgrade. Hem’s glazed chocolate cups come in an espresso size (pour moi), with a roomier style available for any milk-drinking guests.

Finally, winter means one thing in my house: it’s dinner party season. To prepare, I’ll be dressing my table with Citta’s woven placemats and keeping my outfit protected (read: completed) with this tres chic apron by the ever-whimsical Gohar World.

I have two modes this winter: hosting and hibernating. I’m looking for homewares that’ll elevate both parts of my life. We recently hosted a pizza party using our Gozney oven and the only downside was having to use every Tupperware container we own to prove the dough. I’ve got my eye on this dough tray that’d prove (pun intended) the perfect solution to this issue. I’m also keen to add some colour to the kitchen with a cast iron casserole dish from Le Creuset. I’ve got a huge crush on this whimsical print from Food for Everyone, and the fact that buying it will donate 10 meals to people in need only improves things. When it’s all done, I want to curl up on my couch under this Ikea throw.

It’s soup season and, honestly, I don’t want to be anywhere other than my kitchen – stirring minestrone in my sparkly orange Le Creuset – or slurping it on the couch. This fruity chopping board – made from plastic offcuts diverted from the tip – would deliver the kitchen sun. As would Mustard’s funky glass-doored cabinet. Ideally, I’m hugging my bowl on a pull-out in the lounge room with some of Tanchen’s wooden coasters protecting my coffee table from a glass of the toasty pear-powered Non , ’cos I’m laying off the booze.

Changing your sheets can do a lot of heavy lifting when it comes to a room refresh. With the shift of weather well and truly upon us, I’m opting for the Miller Jersey set from Sheet Society for optimum warmth and softness. Fresh sheets aren’t complete without a luxurious room spray. This cedar scent by Zenn has caught my eye. Notes of sandalwood, vanilla and musk are guaranteed to make any room more atmospheric. I’ve always wanted to be one of those people who aesthetically stages a carafe on a bedside table. The Swirl design from Fazeek is the latest addition to my bedroom, and it helps me feel a little more accomplished.
