Coast Into Hosting Season With the Very Funky, Limited-Edition Domus Vim Collab

If you’re looking to eat in Sydney, it’s likely Domus Vim is pointing you where you want to go. Designer Ian Tran’s behind the blue Bar Planet glow, Bella Brutta’s revolving cube, the airline-departures-esque vibe at Hot-Listed Olympic Meats and more. It’s niche, tasty work that brings a new wave of sign-making to Sydney (and beyond) – and turns something functional into art.
His latest project is a collab with Buffet Digital, the leading hospo-focused creative agency. The group of restaurant-adjacent creatives are working in service of your surfaces, making a set of funky resin coasters.
The coasters lean into Dinner a la Perspex, Tran’s pandemic-born art project. Much like the truffle-dusted mi goreng at Ho Jiak or the lacy hopper from soon-to-close Lankan Filling Station, the Buffet x Domus Vim project is delightful.
The bonus here? It’s functional and sustainable. Tran has collected Perspex offcuts from around his Rockdale workshop, fashioning them into noodles, little green chive halos, cute off-kilter fishcakes, perfect farfalle and more. All these snacky little bits are then set in clear resin, left to set then hit your table.
The coasters come in $65 pairs, with free shipping, exclusively available from the online Buffet Shop. While you’re there, check out card game Food Face, a piece of art desperate for your fruit stickers, a poster for the pickle lovers and more.
