Not everyone dreams in linen – and the Sydney-born label has cottoned on, expanding its signature sleep collection beyond its flax designs.

After eight years of refining its stylish flax linen sheets, Bed Threads is introducing a new natural fibre to the mix: buttery-soft organic cotton.

Co-founder Genevieve Rosen-Biller says the launch isn’t just a design move – it’s in response to members of the Bed Threads community, who “love the look of our linen, but prefer the feel of cotton.”

And the appeal is well understood. Like its flax predecessor, the new range is breathable, low-maintenance and suited to all seasons. The cotton is woven into a 200-thread-count percale. “It’s a dream to sleep in and gives you that classic crisp feeling from the very first night,” says Rosen-Biller.

The collection was more than two years in the making. “We trialled multiple weaves and finishes before landing on our organic cotton percale,” says Rosen-Biller. “The final samples went through extensive wear, wash and durability testing before we moved into full production.”

There are eight mixable shades: from punchy apple and rich espresso to classic white and golden butterscotch (a tone Rosen says “works with everything – it’s [both] a colour and a neutral at once”).

If she were to pick a favourite, it’d be espresso. “It’s rich and has a lovely depth. It captures the light beautifully – and works as a standalone statement or styled with other tones in the range, from neutrals like vanilla to bolder and brighter tones like berry or apple.”

While the textures differ – cotton offers a more tailored, structured look than linen’s lived-in aesthetic – Rosen-Biller says the two layer surprisingly well. “I’ve been loving the mix of a cotton bedding set with a linen quilt on top, which was not really something I anticipated initially.”

Pricing is lower than the linen range (a queen cotton duvet cover is $150 versus $250 for linen), and quilt covers, pillowcases, flat and fitted sheets are available to buy individually or as part of a bundle. The range is available to shop online from July 15 via the Bed Threads website.
