Three Sydney venues have made the list, while a Melbourne bar has slipped down the rankings.

Four Australian bars have ranked in the World’s 50 Best Bars supplementary 51 to 100 list ahead of its annual awards. Three Sydney venues have made it to the ancillary list, with Bulletin Place ranking the highest in Australia at number 66 – a jump from last year’s 75th spot. Whisky den The Baxter Inn – crowned Australian bar of the year at last week’s Australian Bar Awards – has fallen one spot since last year, from 78 to 79.

New to the list this year is Sydney cocktail bar PS40 (95), which makes and bottles its own sodas from scratch.

Sophisticated Melbourne bar Black Pearl has dropped from the top 50 list, sinking 50 places to number 80, from 30 last year. It had been ranked in the top 50 every year since the awards started 11 years ago.

Absent from the ranking is Collingwood’s intimate 12-seater Above Board, which secured the 95th spot last year.

Voted for by more than 520 experts, including bartenders, writers and cocktail specialists, this year’s supplementary list features 14 new entries from across the globe. A total of 26 cities are represented from 20 countries; the US has led the pack this year with nine bars on the list, and the UK follows closely behind with seven.

The top 50 will be announced on October 3 with a ceremony in London. Find all the bars that made the 51 to 100 list here.
