Château Lafite-Rothschild produces some of the most sought-after – and valuable – wines in the world.
The vineyard was established as far back as the 1200s in Pauillac, a commune and appellation in the Médoc region of Bordeaux that’s long been revered for its highly structured and long-aging cabernet sauvignons. The chateau rose to fame during the 17th century, when its wines came into favour at the court of Versailles. In 1855, the estate’s flagship drop was named one of four “premier cru” (or first growth) wines in the original Bordeaux classification drawn up for Emperor Napoleon III – and it retains this title almost 170 years later.
The chateau’s most expensive vintage, from 1869, is worth over $200,000. (Needless to say, that bottle is strictly for collecting, not drinking.) In Australia, the more accessible 2021 vintage will today set you back a cool $1850.
If, like us, you’re more accustomed to drinking wine valued in the double digits, right now you have a rare opportunity: Australian fine-wine destination Langtons is giving away a bottle of that Château Lafite-Rothschild Premier Cru Classé 2021. To go in the running, all you need to do is sign up as a member and tell the Langtons team, in 25 words or less, about the best wine experience you’ve ever had. The competition is open to anyone who hasn’t yet signed up as a Langtons member (terms and conditions apply).
Starting out as an auction house in 1988, Langtons has grown into a one-stop shop for luxury wines in Australia. (You’ve probably heard of its classification system, loosely based on the 1855 Bordeaux classification, which has become the definitive guide to fine Australian wines.) Membership comes with some key perks for budding wine collectors. You’ll get access to a range of rare and valuable drops – including limited allocations from high-end Australian producers like Giaconda and Bass Phillip, and imports such as Domaine de la Romanée-Conti and Laurent Ponsot from Burgundy – as well as client services like private shopping and tailored advice on drinking, cellaring and investing. There are also consignment services, including free valuations, to help make the most of your investment; invitations to intimate events such as tasting masterclasses and winemaker dinners; the chance to bid on collector items in Langtons’ bi-weekly auctions; and a host of other benefits and rewards.
What better way to start your collection than with a bottle of the internationally coveted Château Lafite-Rothschild Premier Cru Classé, and access to the fine wine experts at Langtons? Enter the competition and find out more here.
Entry is open to residents of Australia (excluding the Northern Territory) aged 18+ only. Ends 18/12/24 at 11.59 pm AEDT. Entries are limited to one per person. See full T&Cs.
