When the mercury rises, it pays to have a few tricks (and drinks) up your sleeve. In partnership with The Coffee Club, we’re highlighting trendy chilled sippers for combatting the summer heat.

Tiktok and Instagram are ablaze with a constant stream of new food and drinks trends – but what’s actually worth trying? To guide you towards the good stuff, we’ve rounded up this summer’s coolest drinks – from the much-hyped blueberry iced latte to vibrant matcha, these sips will keep you on-trend, cool you down when the mercury soars and, most importantly, taste good. Even a classic childhood favourite is making a comeback.

Here, we unpack this new wave of drinks, where to find them, and what to expect when you order them.

Two-tone drinks are everywhere right now, and blueberry iced lattes in particular went viral on social media during the Northern Hemisphere summer, thanks to a coffee bar in Rhode Island, USA. Since then, creators have been sharing recipes for the pretty, layered drink, which offers a sweet fruity hit alongside the caffeine buzz of an iced latte.

But you don’t have to make your own or travel to the States to try out this trend. Instead, ride the blue-hued wave with The Coffee Club’s version: blueberry syrup on the bottom, ice-cold milk on top and a shot of espresso to finish. Blueberries are at their best in summer, making this the perfect time to grab one.

If blueberries aren’t your bag, but you still want a fruit-and-espresso combo, try The Coffee Club’s Coconut Cloud Iced Latte instead. It brings together coconut and condensed milks with a hit of espresso, plus a cloud of coconut foam on top, and a dusting of toasted coconut chips.

Matcha everything

Once just a vibrant green tea found in Japan, matcha and matcha lattes have spiked in popularity across the globe. The likes of Zendaya and Dua Lipa are regularly spotted sipping matcha-infused drinks, and you can find matcha in everything from cakes and cookies to smoothies and mochi. Tiktok boasts more than 1.2 million posts under the matcha hashtag – and we understand why, because this tea pairs brilliantly with fresh flavours like strawberry and blueberry.

In fact, it’s become so popular that there’s now reportedly a worldwide shortage. Thankfully, you can still get your hands on the green, antioxidant-rich drink thanks to The Coffee Club’s new range of iced matcha drinks, made with premium matcha powder. Go for the classic matcha latte with your choice of milk to really savour the drink’s flavour, or try any of the summery combos with blueberry (for double trend points), mango or tried-and-true strawberry.

Spiders

A little creamy, a little fizzy, spiders are nostalgic mainstays of childhood (something alchemical occurs when a soft drink is combined with a scoop or two of vanilla ice-cream). More recently, the drink has made a comeback, appearing on menus across Australia, including at The Coffee Club, which is serving a pair of these classics for a limited time throughout summer. Take your pick from raspberry or passionfruit soda, watch the magic unfurl as the soda meets the ice-cream, and sip until the heat dies down.
