What is Notwasted?
Founder Elliot Scali says what makes Notwasted different from other online wine delivery services is the fact it’s trying to inform people, rather than just sell wines. “That means [highlighting] the interesting stories and voices of winemakers, local producers, restaurateurs and other [forward-thinking businesses],” he says. “It also means helping people transition from conventional to contemporary wines in ways that resonate with them.”

When he says “from conventional to contemporary wines” he means:
Notwasted sells wines created by organic and biodynamic producers both locally and abroad – winemakers who create their products sustainably and with minimal intervention. The website also includes articles about these businesses. “We want to provide an alternative way for people to make better decisions around wine [and to be] more environmentally conscious and sustainable,” explains Scali. “I think people can resonate with one or many of these aspects. We’re seeing this consumer movement not just in wine but across fashion and food.”

Some of the wines available include …
From Australia: Latta Vino (by Owen Latta from Ballarat) and Si Vintners (by Iwo Jakimowicz and Sarah Morris from Margaret River). Overseas labels include Le Coste (by Gianmarco Antonuzzi from Lazio, Italy) and Cantina Giardino (by Antonio and Daniela De Grutto from Campania, Italy).

How does it work?
The shop sells orange (skin-contact) wines, reds and whites, and ciders and beers. Bottles range in price from $24 to $72, and there are a couple of packs, including the “Out There” (six wines for $140) and the “Winter” (five wines for $145). Shipping is free for orders of six bottles or more.

Anything else you reckon we need to know?
“Product transparency and produce traceability is important to us, so we provide very clear labelling for each wine so you know exactly what’s been added or removed in the winemaking process,” says Scali. “Also, our delivery partner Sendle is providing interstate deliveries carbon neutrally, and we’re looking to become a completely carbon-neutral business shortly.”

Wine orders via Notwasted are available nationally; same-day delivery is only to Sydney customers (for now). Order bottles here.
