When it comes to a classic Australian food, a good two-hander grab-and-go meat pie reigns supreme.
Last week the best pies in the country were awarded at The Great Aussie Pie competition. Over 1500 pies were judged in Melbourne over four days.
The pies are judged by 16 of Australia’s “most dedicated pie connoisseurs” (put that on LinkedIn). Each pie’s shape, size, colour, filling flavour, texture, pastry, creativity and uniformity is taken into consideration.
Buddy’s Bakery in Melton, Victoria won first prize. And the runner-up was Four Seasons Patisserie and Bakery in High Wycombe, Western Australia.
Western Australia received the most accolades with seven nods. Victoria won five awards, New South Wales won four, South Australia won three and Queensland won one award for best game pie.
