Today, the World’s 50 Best Bars unveiled its extended list ahead of next week’s ceremony. Melbourne CBD bar Byrdi was named as the only Australian bar in the longlist, coming in at number 56.

The extended list is announced ahead of next week’s World’s 50 Best Bars ceremony, which takes place in London on December 7. Broadsheet will bring you the winners on Wednesday morning, but for now it’s all about celebrating the bars that made the 51 to 100 countdown.

The awards, sponsored by Perrier, are decided by a voting panel of over 600 independent authorities from around the world. Those include bartenders, educators and cocktail specialists. This year, the 51 to 100 longlist includes 28 new entries from 26 countries, including Locale Firenze in Florence, Italy, which was named 51st best bar in the world.

The US has the most bars in the extended list, with seven making the cut; its highest ranked bar (so far) is New York’s Double Chicken Please, at number 54. Kenya’s Hero Bar is ranked 70th, making it the first African bar outside South Africa to land a position in the 50 Best Bars list.

Melbourne’s Byrdi reached 23 on The World’s 50 Best Bars list in 2018 and was number 30 in 2019. See the full extended list via the link below.
