It’s steak night – and you’re laying off the booze. But what will you reach for?

Non’s latest release might be the answer. The Melbourne-based non-alc brand has just dropped its most food-focused bottle yet – Non 9 Oaked Blackberry and Plum – a full-bodied red that’s designed with winter tables in mind.

Crafted using Stanley plums, blackberry, tamari (Japanese soy sauce), fir pine, French oak and Victorian shiraz grape skins, the blend is best served chilled, ideally alongside ragu, flame-grilled veg or a perfectly charred steak.

“Everyone’s been searching for a non-alc red that holds up to food – something with grip, complexity and actual flavour,” says Non founder Aaron Trotman. “This isn’t wine without alcohol. It’s a new experience, built from the ground up.”

It comes at a time when demand for booze-free options continues to rise. A recent report found that 44 per cent of Aussies who drink want to cut back or stop altogether – and wine remains the most popular order when dining out.

“Non is a wine alternative that is built like a fine-dining dish,” says Nick Cozens, the brand’s head of beverage. “We’ve applied culinary techniques to create something that serves the wine occasion.”

You can purchase the new blend online using the code BROADSHEET15 for 15 per cent off your order. But you might also spot it on the menu at selected restaurants around town.
