“Marmite’s Just Not The Same” : Margot Robbie, Sarah Snook and More Celebs On Their Top Aussie Snacks

Several of Australia’s most successful acting exports – and overseas stars who have been working on local Aussie productions – headed to Centennial Park on February 22 for the triumphant return of Tropfest.
Broadsheet was there to capture all the action, but we couldn’t resist asking the Aussie stars to share their opinions on our local snacky favourites.
Five actors share the treats they stock up on before they head overseas to film. Plus, we take a detour to talk to Hamish Blake about Aussie hot chip culture.
Margot Robbie
“Chicken Crimpys, Burger Rings, two-minute noodles, those little barbeque rice snack things that you [scoop] out of the bag and then Milo and all that obviously. Tim Tams, the classics.”
Sarah Snook
“I mean, Tim Tams are just really good.”
Taron Egerton
“It’s Tim Tams, isn’t it? But to my palate, they’re like a Penguin, which is what I grew up with.”
Danielle MacDonald & Claude Scott-Mitchell
MacDonald, who lives overseas, says she’s always packing “Barbecue Shapes and Australian coffee beans.”
Scott-Mitchell says that when she used to live in London, she’d bring back Vegemite. “There are special places you have to go in London to get it. Marmite’s just not the same. It never will be.”
Hamish Blake
Obviously, Hamish Blake lives in Australia, but he took a moment on the Tropfest carpet to share his love of hot chips.
“My dream is to spend a year searching for Australia’s best hot chips. When that happens, I’ll hit you guys up. Let me know if I can be a gonzo reporter for you, for a year. I’ll cover all expenses. I’ll pay for my own chips. But just, I feel like the people need to know.”
You heard it here first: Hamish Blake is ready to take up the mantle of Aussie Chip Guy and hunt for the best chippies.
