Go On, It’s Christmas: The Drinks Worth Popping Open This Year

In charge of the drinks this year, or after a bottle to take to a do? Maybe you’re looking for a gift, a little something to say “thank you” or “take a load off, it’s the holidays”. Whatever the reason and whoever the recipient, ALDI has a great range of celebratory beverages, whether you want to relax or get festive. Here are some of our picks.
Monsigny Premier Cru Champagne
If you’re not gifting this champagne ($39.99 for 750ml), then this is the bottle to pop as you start your Christmas feast. Made from grapes in the Premier Cru vineyards, the second highest classification of the Champagne region, this is a solid choice to pair with seafood and light starters – or simply sip on its own as the kids rip into presents.
Collezione Oro Asolo Prosecco Superiore
Perhaps you lean Italian rather than French? This prosecco has DOCG status, which translates to “controlled and guaranteed designation of origin”, the highest classification level for Italian wines, signifying specific origin and quality. Made in the Asolo region in Veneto, it’s a fruity drop ($14.99 for 750ml), crisp and creamy on the palate and a perfect accompaniment to an antipasto platter.
Sofi Spritz
A hot Christmas day is all it takes to seek something summery, and the perfect answer is a spritz. Sofi, a Mudgee winemaker, has captured Italian flavours with two spritzes: choose from The Amalfi ($9.99 for 750ml), a refreshing lemon spritz; or The Bellini ($9.99 for 750ml), a juicy blend of peach and ginger. Or, for this price, why not both?
Good Culture Society Kombucha
Fizz fans who want a non-alc tipple can get their fix with a dose of kombucha from Good Culture Society in the regular drinks aisle. There are also two fruity flavours available: mixed berry or mango passionfruit for a tropical hit. Each flavour comes in a four-pack of 250ml cans for $5.99. And you can tell yourself the live cultures will help you digest that second plate of turkey.
L’Expression Pinot Gris
An Australian summer Christmas calls for lighter food than our northern counterparts, so a pinot gris ($10.99 for 750ml) is a nice drop to pair with nibbles and more delicate fare. This one has a fruity character with both crisp pear and citrus at the forefront, and subtle floral notes for a refreshing finish.
Nerissimo Primitivo Rosé 2024 Vintage
This Italian rosé ($14.99 for 750ml) should be saved for when dessert comes out. It’s perfect to pair with panettone, a trifle or a fruit platter thanks to its notes of berries, cherries and spice. If you’re too full for dessert, it also makes a great nightcap; its smooth and dry finish rounds off a meal nicely.
Baroque Brandy
Here’s one for the traditionalists: brandy. Whether you’re stirring it into eggnog or custard, leaving a nip for Santa, or sipping some after a long night of gift-wrapping, you can’t go wrong with this award-winning Australian brandy ($36.99 for 700ml), which earnt a bronze medal at the 2025 London Spirits Competition. Aged in oak barrels, it offers classic raisin and spice notes with a smooth mouthfeel.
Duffey’s Irish Whiskey
Another traditional spirit for the holidays, this award-winning bottle ($39.99 for 700ml) is a smooth tipple that’s great for gifting – something you can sip neat, or pop into your favourite cocktail. It’s a rich and mellow drop that has won accolades at both the Spirits International Prestige Awards and Irish Whiskey Masters.
