Gelato giant Messina has been delivering the Aussie-themed goods lately, taking cult snacks and turning them into limited-edition specials such as this week’s Iced Vovo gelato. Now, it’s announced its next Frankenstein food creation: fairy bread cookie pies.
These bake-at-home beauties are a cut above the margarine, sprinkles and Wonder White combo you’d get at a suburban kid’s birthday party. Vanilla custard is held between layers of crumbly cookie, and the whole thing is blanketed in hundreds and thousands. Bang it in the oven for around half an hour until the cookie is soft and bubbly, then top with your preferred gelato flavour.
In order to cope with what’ll likely be an immense influx of orders, Messina will be selling the pies for one day only – Monday July 27. It’ll post the on-sale link on its site at 10am, and you’ll be able to select a day (from July 31 to August 2) to pick it up from your nearest Messina store. And so you don’t get your hopes up only to find the pies are sold out, it’ll be posting on its Instagram account as each store exhausts its allocation.
Messina’s fairy bread cookie pies cost $20 each and go on sale at 10am on July 27. Customers must follow the state's social distancing rules when picking up their order, including wearing a mask in Melbourne.
